FAQs

What is HerSigns?
HerSigns is a bilingual (English and Spanish) heart attack education and awareness app made for women. Built by a heart attack survivor, it teaches the warning signs women actually experience — not the male textbook version — gives them the words to advocate for themselves with doctors, and lets them share what they've learned with the women they love. HerSigns is an education and awareness tool, not a medical, diagnostic, or treatment app.

How are heart attack symptoms different in women than in men?
Women's heart attack symptoms are often quieter and easier to dismiss than the "chest-clutching" picture most people picture. HerSigns is built around the symptoms women actually feel — taught in plain words, not clinical jargon — so you can recognize what your body may be telling you. HerSigns is educational and never a substitute for emergency care or a doctor's evaluation.

My doctor keeps dismissing my symptoms. Can HerSigns help?
Yes. HerSigns was made for "the dismissed" — women who were told it was probably just stress, just anxiety, just nothing. Alongside symptom education, HerSigns gives you advocacy language: the words to use when you aren't being heard, so you can have a clearer conversation with your healthcare provider.

Is there a bilingual (Spanish and English) heart health resource for women?
Yes. HerSigns is fully available in English and Spanish, because every woman deserves to understand her body in her own language.

Is HerSigns a medical or diagnostic app?
No. HerSigns is an education and awareness app. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It's meant to help you learn and advocate for yourself — always consult a qualified healthcare provider about your heart health, and call emergency services if you think you're having a heart attack.

Who is HerSigns for?
Any woman — whether she's learning her signs for the first time or has lived through a cardiac event and wants to pass what she knows to the women she loves. It's also for the women in her life who receive what she shares.

How does HerSigns work?
HerSigns centers on one simple act: a woman learns her signs, then sends them to a woman she loves. You can send a sign, an advocacy script, or a message of care — and every share plants a flower in your Garden, a gentle way to see your knowledge reaching others. There are no feeds, no followers, and no likes.

Is HerSigns free?
You can join the waitlist for free, and HerSigns will notify you the moment the app opens.

Who created HerSigns?
HerSigns was founded by Vicki Mascareño Nelson, a heart attack survivor who didn't recognize her own signs, alongside other survivors working to make sure the next woman does.
